Left Behind is a short documentary series of four films that explore male suicide from the female perspective, produced and directed by Duncan Cowles for Brothers in Arms Scotland.
Each film explores a different woman’s story about being left behind after male suicide. The first film looks at a Mother’s story of losing her son to suicide, and was launched on Mother’s Day 31st of March 2019. The following films look a daughter, parter and wife’s experience of losing their loved one to male suicide.
The films have been used at many fundraising events for the charity, and were featured in various press outlets at the time such as The Scotsman.
These short films were made during the production of Duncan’s feature documentary Silent Men. During the production of Silent Men it became clear that the focus of the film would be on men and their experience. This project provided an important opportunity to look at how male suicide impacted women.
